The Northman

In AD 895, Prince Amleth, the son of King Aurvandill War-Raven, witnesses his father’s brutal murder at the hands of his uncle Fjölnir, who also abducts Amleth’s mother, Queen Gudrún. Swearing vengeance, Amleth escapes and grows up among a band of berserkers. After learning that Fjölnir has been overthrown and now lives in Iceland, Amleth disguises himself as a slave to infiltrate Fjölnir’s farm.

Once there, he discovers that his mother has married Fjölnir and had another son named Gunnar. With the help of a Slavic sorceress named Olga, Amleth embarks on a violent quest for revenge. He retrieves a magical sword called Draugr and begins to eliminate Fjölnir’s men one by one.

As tensions rise, Amleth confronts his mother, who reveals her treachery against Aurvandill and attempts to seduce him. Enraged by her betrayal, he kills Fjölnir’s son Thorir and later faces off against both Gunnar and Gudrún in self-defense. The climax culminates in a fierce duel between Amleth and Fjölnir at the volcano Hekla, where they engage in a traditional Viking fight known as holmgang. Ultimately, Amleth avenges his father by killing Fjölnir but is mortally wounded in the process.

As he dies, he envisions Olga with their unborn twins before being taken by a valkyrie to Valhalla.
