In Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, set over 30 years after the original animated series, Chip and Dale are living separate lives in a world where humans and cartoon characters coexist. Chip has become a successful insurance salesman, while Dale clings to his past fame, attending fan conventions and undergoing CGI surgery to maintain his looks. Their friendship deteriorated when Dale pursued a solo acting career, leading to the cancellation of their show.
The story kicks off when their old friend Monterey Jack goes missing due to his debts with a bootlegger named Sweet Pete, who is actually an adult version of Peter Pan. He runs an operation that kidnaps animated characters, alters them, and forces them into bootleg films. Despite initial reluctance, Chip and Dale reunite to investigate Monterey’s disappearance.
As they navigate through various challenges—including encounters with Sweet Pete and his henchmen—they must confront their past grievances and work together again. With the help of Detective Ellie Steckler, a fan of their show, they uncover a plot involving toon trafficking. The duo eventually rescues Monterey and defeats Sweet Pete using clever tactics reminiscent of their old show.
In the end, Chip and Dale reconcile their friendship and consider reviving the Rescue Rangers as they embrace their legacy in the modern world.
