Room (2015)

Room tells the harrowing yet hopeful story of Joy Newsome, a young woman who has been held captive for seven years in a small, soundproof shed she calls “Room.” During her captivity, she gives birth to a son named Jack, who knows nothing of the outside world and believes that Room is all there is. Joy creates a nurturing environment for Jack within the confines of their prison, teaching him about life through games and stories while trying to shield him from the reality of their situation.

As Jack grows older and becomes more curious about the world beyond Room, Joy devises a daring plan to escape. She pretends that Jack is sick, which leads their captor, Old Nick, to take him out of Room. In a moment of bravery, Jack escapes and alerts a passerby for help. The police rescue both Jack and Joy, leading them into the unfamiliar world outside.

Once free, they face new challenges as they adjust to life after captivity. Joy struggles with her mental health and reconnecting with her family, while Jack grapples with understanding his new surroundings. The film poignantly explores themes of love, resilience, and the bond between mother and son as they navigate their traumatic past and embrace their newfound freedom.
