In The Secret Life of Pets 2, the story follows Max, a Jack Russell Terrier, who faces significant changes in his life after his owner, Katie, marries Chuck and they have a son named Liam. Initially, Max is skeptical and protective of Liam due to his rough play but eventually grows fond of him. To manage Max’s anxiety about Liam’s safety, Katie takes him to the veterinarian for a dog cone.
The family embarks on a road trip to visit Chuck’s uncle on a farm. There, Max meets Rooster, a Welsh Sheepdog who teaches him about bravery and confidence. After an incident where Max loses a baby sheep named Cotton, he learns to overcome his fears with Rooster’s guidance.
Meanwhile, Gidget, Max’s Pomeranian friend, is tasked with retrieving Max’s favorite toy from a cat-infested apartment owned by an elderly lady known as the Crazy Cat Lady. With help from Chloe and Norman, Gidget successfully retrieves the toy and gains the respect of the cats.
In another subplot, Snowball the bunny teams up with Daisy, a Shih Tzu, to rescue Hu, a white tiger held captive by an abusive circus owner named Sergei. They face challenges from Sergei’s pack of wolves but ultimately succeed in freeing Hu.
As the story unfolds, all pets come together to confront Sergei and his wolves during an intense chase involving trains and clever tactics. In the end, they manage to defeat Sergei and return home safely. The film concludes with Max learning to let go of his anxieties regarding Liam as he prepares for preschool.
