Overview
In “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” the story picks up one year after the events of the previous film. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, now the chief of Berk, continues his mission to rescue dragons alongside his fellow Dragon Riders. Despite achieving his dream of a harmonious existence between humans and dragons, Berk faces overpopulation issues as more dragons are rescued.
Plot Development
Hiccup dreams of finding the mythical ‘Hidden World,’ a safe haven for dragons that his late father Stoick spoke about. Meanwhile, a white female dragon resembling Toothless, dubbed the “Light Fury,” is captured by warlords and given to Grimmel the Grisly, a notorious dragon hunter. Grimmel aims to use her as bait to capture Toothless.
Toothless encounters the Light Fury in the woods, and they quickly form a bond. However, she flees upon sensing Hiccup’s presence. After discovering traps set by Grimmel, Hiccup prepares an ambush but fails to capture him. Grimmel retaliates by burning down Hiccup’s home and many others in Berk.
Determined to protect their home and find safety for the dragons, Hiccup leads the citizens of Berk on a quest to locate the Hidden World. They temporarily settle on an island called New Berk while searching for this sanctuary.
Climactic Events
As Toothless struggles with flying solo due to his damaged tail fin, Hiccup constructs an automatic tail for him. This allows Toothless to fly independently and reunite with the Light Fury. However, Grimmel’s forces soon discover their location, leading to intense confrontations.
Hiccup and Astrid eventually find the Hidden World but realize that humans would be intruders there. When Grimmel captures both Toothless and the Light Fury, Hiccup rallies his friends for a final battle against Grimmel’s army.
In an epic showdown involving aerial duels and strategic maneuvers using wingsuits, Hiccup manages to free Toothless while also freeing the Light Fury from Grimmel’s control. Ultimately, they defeat Grimmel when he falls into the ocean.
Conclusion
Recognizing that dragons will never be safe in human society, Hiccup bids farewell to Toothless as he leads all dragons into their new home in the Hidden World. Months later, Hiccup marries Astrid as they establish their new life on New Berk while keeping watch over their secret from humanity.
Years later, Hiccup visits Toothless and his family at the edge of the Hidden World with his own children, vowing that until humans can coexist peacefully with dragons, they will remain hidden.
