In The Notebook, an elderly man named Duke reads a romantic story from his notebook to a fellow nursing home resident, Allie Hamilton, who suffers from dementia. The narrative unfolds in the 1940s, focusing on the passionate summer romance between Noah Calhoun, a poor country boy, and Allie Hamilton, a wealthy young woman.
Their love blossoms during a summer in Seabrook Island, South Carolina, but is thwarted by social class differences and disapproving parents.
