Living

In the movie “Corpse Bride,” set in a Victorian town, Victor Van Dort, the son of fish merchants, and Victoria Everglot, the neglected daughter of impoverished aristocrats, are preparing for their arranged marriage. During the wedding rehearsal, Victor messes up his vows and flees to the forest to practice alone. There, he inadvertently places his wedding ring on a rotted finger belonging to a murdered girl named Emily. This action unintentionally marries him to Emily, who rises from the grave and claims to be his wife, taking him to the Land of the Dead.

In the Land of the Dead, Victor learns that Emily was murdered by her fiancé on the night of her elopement. Despite bonding with Emily and reuniting with his deceased dog Scraps, Victor is desperate to return to Victoria in the Land of the Living. He tricks Emily into allowing him to visit his parents in the living world but ends up being dragged back by her when she discovers his intentions.

Meanwhile, in the Land of the Living, Victoria’s parents decide to marry her off to a wealthy newcomer named Lord Barkis Bittern due to financial troubles. Learning of this impending marriage and upset over Victoria’s situation, Victor decides to marry Emily in death by repeating his vows in the Land of the Living and drinking poison.

The dead prepare for Victor and Emily’s wedding ceremony as chaos erupts in town. Ultimately, Victor chooses to be with Emily in death as they have their wedding ceremony among both realms.
