The Adam Project

In The Adam Project, set in a dystopian 2050, fighter pilot Adam Reed (Ryan Reynolds) steals a time jet to travel back to 2018 in an attempt to save his wife, Laura (Zoe Saldaña), who is targeted for assassination by the villainous Maya Sorian (Catherine Keener). However, during his escape, he is injured and crash-lands in 2022. There, he encounters his 12-year-old self (Walker Scobell), who is struggling with the recent death of their father, Louis Reed (Mark Ruffalo).

Initially distrustful of each other, the two Adams team up to uncover the truth about Laura’s fate and confront Sorian. They learn that after Louis invented time travel, Sorian manipulated events to gain control over it for her own benefit. The older Adam and his younger self embark on a mission to destroy Sorian’s particle accelerator, which is crucial for time travel.

As they navigate their challenges, both Adams confront their grief over their father’s death and reconcile their relationship. In a climactic battle against Sorian and her henchmen, they manage to erase her from existence by altering key events in the timeline. Ultimately, the older Adam returns to his future with newfound peace while the younger Adam learns to appreciate his mother more deeply.

Years later, an older Adam meets Laura again under different circumstances, suggesting a hopeful future ahead.
