Scarfies

Scarfies, also known as Crime 101 in the United States, is a 1999 New Zealand black comedy film that follows a group of five university students living in Dunedin. The story begins with these students moving into a seemingly abandoned flat that has free electricity but is in disarray. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they discover a large indoor marijuana crop growing in the basement.

The Discovery and Its Consequences
Excited by their find, the students decide to harvest and sell the marijuana for $50,000, significantly less than its actual worth. However, their excitement quickly turns to fear when Kevin, the original owner of the crop, shows up looking for his stolen goods. In a panic, they lock him in the basement to buy time while they figure out what to do.

Escalation of Events
As tensions rise and paranoia sets in, the group struggles with their moral dilemmas and deteriorating relationships. The backdrop of this chaos is set against a crucial rugby match that adds urgency to their predicament. The situation spirals out of control as they contemplate increasingly desperate measures to deal with Kevin and protect themselves.

Conclusion
Ultimately, Scarfies blends humor with darker themes as it explores friendship, greed, and the consequences of impulsive decisions among young adults caught in an extraordinary situation.
