Segment Summaries

1. The Eve
   Directed by Guan Hu, this segment follows engineer Lin Zhiyuan as he races against time to perfect an automatic flag-raising mechanism for the PRC’s founding ceremony on October 1, 1949. The story highlights community spirit as neighbors contribute resources to help him succeed.

2. Passing By
   In this segment directed by Zhang Yibai, scientist Gao Yuan must leave his lover behind while working on China’s first atomic bomb in the 1960s. Their brief encounter on a bus serves as a poignant reminder of personal sacrifices made during times of national progress.

3. The Champion
   Directed by Xu Zheng, this story features a young boy named Dong Dong from Shanghai who helps his neighbors watch the women’s volleyball team’s Olympic gold medal match in 1984. His selflessness comes at the cost of missing a farewell moment with his crush.

4. Going Home
   Xue Xiaolu directs this segment about preparations for Hong Kong’s return to China in 1997. It captures the emotions and significance surrounding this historic event through the eyes of local policemen and delegates.

5. Hello Beijing
   Directed by Ning Hao, this story revolves around a taxi driver who encounters a boy from Sichuan after obtaining a ticket for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Their interaction leads to an unexpected act of kindness.

6. The Guiding Star
   Chen Kaige directs this segment featuring two homeless brothers who witness the landing of Shenzhou 11 in November 2016, symbolizing hope and national pride amidst their struggles.

7. One for All
   The final story, directed by Wen Muye, focuses on fighter jet pilot Lü Xiaoran as she leads her team during a military parade commemorating significant victories in Chinese history.
