All the Old Knives

In All the Old Knives, CIA officer Henry Pelham (played by Chris Pine) is tasked with investigating a tragic incident from 2012 involving the hijacking of Turkish Airlines Flight 127, which resulted in the deaths of all passengers and crew. The CIA suspects that there was a mole within their Vienna station who leaked critical information to the terrorists.

The Investigation
Henry’s investigation leads him to meet Celia Harrison (Thandiwe Newton), his former lover and colleague at the Vienna station, now living a quiet life in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Their meeting takes place in an upscale restaurant where they reminisce about their past while Henry subtly interrogates Celia about her involvement during the hijacking.

Flashbacks and Revelations
Through flashbacks, viewers learn about the events leading up to the hijacking, including Henry’s betrayal of Ilyas Shushani, a Chechen informant who later becomes radicalized. As they discuss their shared history and the tragedy that unfolded, it becomes clear that both characters are hiding secrets.

Climactic Twist
As tensions rise during their conversation, it is revealed that Celia has been working with an Austrian intelligence agent to poison Henry as revenge for his betrayal. In a heartbreaking climax, Henry admits he was coerced into revealing sensitive information to save Celia’s life during the crisis. Ultimately, as Henry succumbs to the poison, Celia returns home to her family, leaving behind a complex web of love and betrayal.
