Mothers' Instinct

In 1960s suburban America, two best friends and neighbors, Alice (played by Jessica Chastain) and Céline (played by Anne Hathaway), navigate the complexities of motherhood and friendship. Their seemingly perfect lives are shattered when a tragic accident occurs: Alice witnesses Céline’s son, Max, fall to his death from a balcony while trying to hang a birdhouse. This incident creates a rift between the two women, as Céline distances herself from Alice in her grief.

As time passes, Céline begins to bond with Alice’s son, Theo, which intensifies Alice’s feelings of guilt and paranoia. She becomes suspicious that Céline is deliberately endangering Theo, especially after a series of unfortunate events unfold, including Theo suffering an allergic reaction while at Céline’s house.

Alice’s suspicions escalate into a psychological battle as she believes Céline may be responsible for other tragedies surrounding their families. The tension culminates in a shocking climax where betrayal and dark secrets come to light, leading to devastating consequences for both families.

Ultimately, the film explores themes of maternal instinct, grief, and the destructive power of jealousy and suspicion among friends.
