Robert Shinn is a pastor and the owner of 7M Films, a talent management company that represents TikTok dancers. He also founded the Shekinah Church decades ago. According to former members and dancers, Shinn exercised an extreme amount of control over them, from their dance routines to financial decisions, and encouraged them to cut ties with their families who were not part of 7M and Shekinah. He has been accused of manipulative and controlling behavior.
Miranda Derrick, formerly known as Miranda Wilking, is a TikTok dancer who was in a romantic relationship with James “BDash” Derrick and signed with 7M Films in 2019. She became increasingly distant from her family and eventually cut off contact with them. In January 2021, she married James without her family present and now goes by Miranda Derrick. Her family made public allegations that 7M was a cult and that Miranda was being manipulated and exploited. In response, Miranda stated that she was not held against her will and that she was free to pursue her faith or career elsewhere if she chose to do so.
As of now, Miranda is back in contact with her family but has requested they do not ask her about 7M or the Shekinah church. She continues to dance with her husband James. The documentary “Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult” explores the stories of Miranda and other dancers who were involved with 7M Films and the Shekinah Church.
