Bridgerton is an American historical romance television series created by Chris Van Dusen for Netflix. Based on the book series by Julia Quinn, it is Shondaland’s first scripted show for Netflix. The series is set during the early 1800s in an alternative London Regency era, where racial equality was established and people of African descent were granted aristocratic titles due to Queen Charlotte’s African heritage. The show has been well-received, with multiple award nominations and wins, including for its direction, actor performances, production design, and music score.
The first season of Bridgerton debuted on December 25, 2020. It follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest Bridgerton daughter, as she navigates the competitive social season in search of a suitable husband. The second season premiered on March 25, 2022, and focuses on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) as he searches for love. Part one of the third season premiered on May 16, 2024, with part two following on June 13, 2024. The series was renewed for a fourth season in April 2021.
Bridgerton has been positively received for its direction, actor performances, production and set design, winning two Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and a Make-Up Artists And Hair Stylists Guild Award. It also received nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Satellite Awards, and NAACP Image Awards. Kris Bowers’s music score earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.
