Black Panther

Reginald Hudlin’s “Black Panther: The Bride” comic book series, published by Marvel Comics, tells the story of the marriage of Black Panther (T’Challa) and Storm (Ororo Munroe). The engagement and wedding of these iconic Marvel characters were met with skepticism from some fans due to concerns about how their dynamic would change and whether their relationship had enough history to support a marriage.

The series begins with T’Challa proposing to Storm during a fight against Arab slave-traders in Africa. Prior to this proposal, readers are given background information on T’Challa and Wakanda’s history through flashbacks, including Malcolm X’s visit to Wakanda and his connection to Storm’s father. Young T’Challa also has a heart-to-heart conversation with his father about love.

After Storm agrees to accompany T’Challa back to Wakanda, they face challenges from various supervillains, such as The Arabian Knight. Despite these distractions, they eventually get married in a double-sized issue filled with cameos from various heroes and celebrities. The wedding takes place during Marvel’s line-wide Civil War event, making it a significant event for the Marvel Universe.

The series received mixed reviews from critics and fans. Some praised the character development and interactions between T’Challa and Storm, while others felt that the relationship was rushed or lacked depth. Regardless of personal opinions, “Black Panther: The Bride” is an important chapter in the lives of these beloved characters.
