Overview

Plot Summary
Mia and her husband, Nico, decide to flee Spain due to a global crisis that has led to a totalitarian regime taking control of their home country. This regime has resulted in severe shortages of necessities and the brutal killing of civilians, particularly targeting children, the elderly, and pregnant women. The couple fears for their lives and the safety of their unborn child, especially after losing their first daughter, Uma, who was taken by the military as part of genocidal policies.
To escape, they plan to travel to Ireland, one of the few countries still maintaining a democratic government amidst the chaos. They hide in a shipping container intended for transport on a cargo ship. However, during their escape attempt at a military checkpoint, they are separated when Nico is forced out of the container. Mia manages to remain hidden but soon finds herself alone as all other occupants are killed.
Once loaded onto the ship, Mia’s container is swept into the ocean during a violent storm. As she drifts at sea with limited supplies—mostly household items like Tupperware and packaged goods—she faces numerous challenges. After two days adrift, she gives birth to her daughter Noa while battling severe physical and mental exhaustion.
Throughout her harrowing journey at sea, Mia fights against rising water levels in her container and struggles with hallucinations of her lost daughter Uma. She uses whatever resources she can find within the container to survive: constructing makeshift tools and even resorting to eating her placenta for sustenance.
As days turn into weeks without rescue, Mia receives phone calls from Nico who reveals his precarious health condition after being shot. Despite this devastating news, he encourages Mia to keep fighting for their daughter’s survival.
Eventually, after enduring unimaginable hardships—including injuries sustained while trying to signal for help—Mia constructs a raft from debris as her container sinks beneath the waves. In an act of desperation and hope for salvation, she drifts until she is spotted by a fishing boat that rescues both her and Noa.
The film concludes with Mia being brought ashore in Ireland where she finally finds safety after an intense struggle for survival against overwhelming odds.
