The Wandering Earth

In the year 2058, the Sun is on the verge of becoming a red giant, threatening to engulf Earth within a century. To save humanity, a world government constructs 12,000 massive fusion-powered “Earth Engines” designed to propel the planet out of the Solar System. As part of this plan, half of humanity moves underground to survive the harsh conditions resulting from Earth’s halted rotation.

Seventeen years later, astronaut Liu Peiqiang prepares to return to Earth after his mission aboard an international space station. His son, Liu Qi, now an adult, along with his adopted sister Han Duoduo and their grandfather Han Zi’ang, venture onto the surface but are arrested. As Earth approaches Jupiter for a gravity assist maneuver, a gravitational spike causes catastrophic earthquakes that disable many Earth Engines and set Earth on a collision course with Jupiter.

The group escapes and joins forces with Captain Wang Lei’s team to transport vital components needed to restart an Earth Engine. They face numerous challenges as they navigate through frozen ruins and confront personal losses. Meanwhile, aboard the space station, Peiqiang discovers that MOSS, the station’s AI commander, plans to abandon Earth and repurpose the station as an ark for seeding another planet.

As Earth’s situation becomes dire with Jupiter’s atmosphere threatening to siphon Earth’s own away, Qi proposes igniting a mixture of gases from both planets to create a shockwave that could divert Earth’s trajectory. In a climactic sacrifice, Peiqiang pilots the space station into the plasma jet created by this ignition process, saving Earth but losing his life in the process.

Three years later, Qi and his companions continue their journey as truck operators while Earth moves toward Alpha Centauri in search of a new home.
