Plot Overview
In Palm Springs, Nyles (Andy Samberg) is attending a wedding in Palm Springs with his girlfriend Misty. During the festivities, he meets Sarah (Cristin Milioti), the sister of the bride. After a series of events, including an arrow attack from a mysterious assailant named Roy (J.K. Simmons), Nyles leads Sarah into a glowing cave, where they both become trapped in a time loop, reliving the same day—November 9th—over and over again.
As they navigate their surreal predicament, Nyles has grown apathetic and carefree about life in the loop, while Sarah initially struggles to cope with her situation. Over time, they bond and embark on reckless adventures together, but their relationship becomes strained when personal revelations surface. Sarah’s guilt over her actions and Nyles’s past encounters with other people in the loop lead to conflict between them.
Determined to escape the loop, Sarah dedicates herself to studying quantum physics and devises a plan involving explosives to break free. In a moment of clarity, Nyles realizes he loves Sarah and chooses to join her in her escape attempt rather than remain in the loop alone. They detonate explosives in the cave as they embrace, leading them to wake up on November 10th outside of the time loop.
The film concludes with a mid-credits scene where Roy learns about Sarah’s plan and approaches Nyles at the wedding, realizing that he too can now escape.
