Intouchables

Intouchables is a heartwarming French film that tells the story of an unlikely friendship between two men from vastly different backgrounds. Philippe, a wealthy quadriplegic aristocrat, hires Driss, a young man from the projects with a criminal past, as his caregiver.

Plot Summary
The film opens with Driss driving Philippe’s Maserati at high speed through Paris while being chased by the police. This scene sets the tone for their unconventional relationship. The narrative then shifts to how they met: Driss initially applies for the caregiver position just to obtain a signature for welfare benefits but ends up being hired on a trial basis due to his refreshing attitude and lack of pity towards Philippe.

Driss introduces Philippe to new experiences, including modern art and music, while Philippe helps Driss navigate his own troubled family life. Eventually, recognizing that Driss needs to move on with his life, Philippe releases him from his caregiving duties. However, when Philippe’s health declines after Driss leaves, Yvonne (Philippe’s assistant) reaches out to Driss for help. This leads to a poignant reunion where they embark on an adventure together once more.

The film concludes with Philippe finally meeting Éléonore while Driss watches from afar, symbolizing the growth both characters have experienced through their friendship.
