Shaun is a 29-year-old electronics salesman who is struggling in his life. He is disrespected by his colleagues, does not get along with his stepfather, and is dumped by his girlfriend. He spends most of his time at his favorite pub, the Winchester, with his slacker best friend Ed.
One day, a zombie apocalypse breaks out in London. Shaun and Ed are initially unaware of the danger, but they soon encounter zombies in their garden and are forced to fight them off. They then set out to rescue Shaun’s mother, Barbara, and his ex-girlfriend, Liz.
Along the way, they encounter various obstacles, including a zombified version of Shaun’s roommate, Pete, and a group of zombies led by Shaun’s friend Yvonne. They eventually make it to the Winchester, where they are surrounded by zombies.
Shaun uses himself as bait to lure the zombies away, but they eventually break into the pub. During the ensuing chaos, Barbara is bitten by a zombie and dies. Shaun is forced to shoot her after she turns into a zombie.
The zombies eventually overrun the pub, and Shaun, Liz, and Ed are forced to take cover behind the bar. Shaun sets the bar on fire to create a barrier, which also causes shotgun shells to explode and kill several zombies.
