Overview
“Kabir Singh” is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. It stars Shahid Kapoor as Kabir Rajdheer Singh, a talented but troubled surgeon, and Kiara Advani as Preeti Sikka, his love interest. The film is a remake of Vanga’s own Telugu film “Arjun Reddy.”
Plot Summary
The story follows Kabir, who is studying at the Delhi Institute of Medical Sciences. He has severe anger management issues and is known for his aggressive behavior, earning him a reputation as a bully. Despite this, he falls in love with Preeti, a timid first-year student. Their relationship develops intensely, but it faces challenges when Preeti’s conservative father disapproves of Kabir.
After an altercation with her father leads to Kabir being thrown out of their home, he gives Preeti an ultimatum to choose between him and her family. When she fails to reach him in time due to his reckless behavior, Kabir succumbs to substance abuse and ends up in a coma for two days.
Upon awakening, he discovers that Preeti has been forced into an arranged marriage. In despair, he spirals into alcoholism and drug addiction while trying to cope with the loss of his love. His self-destructive behavior leads to professional consequences when he collapses during surgery due to intoxication.
Eventually, after hitting rock bottom and reconciling with his estranged father following the death of his grandmother, Kabir resolves to change his life. He later encounters Preeti again; she reveals that she left her husband shortly after their marriage and that she is pregnant with Kabir’s child. They reunite and marry, bringing their families together.
