The Godfather Part II

In The Godfather Part II, the film interweaves events that take place after the original The Godfather and the early life of Vito Corleone. The story follows two main plotlines:

Vito’s Story:

  • In 1901, in Corleone, Sicily, young Vito Andolini witnesses his family being killed by Mafia chieftain Don Ciccio after his father refuses to pay tribute. Vito escapes to New York City and becomes known as Vito Corleone.
  • In 1917, Vito lives in Little Italy with his wife Carmela and their children. He gets involved in criminal activities with neighbors Clemenza and Tessio, eventually leading to a confrontation with local extortionist Don Fanucci.
  • Vito gains power by eliminating Fanucci and later avenges his family’s death by killing Don Ciccio in Sicily.

Michael’s Story:

  • In 1958, Michael Corleone is now the head of the Corleone crime family. He faces challenges in expanding the family business into Las Vegas, Hollywood, and Cuba.
  • Michael deals with internal conflicts within the family while navigating external threats from rival factions like the Rosato Brothers backed by Hyman Roth.
  • An assassination attempt on Michael leads him to suspect a traitor within his own ranks, culminating in a trip to Cuba where betrayals are revealed.

The film portrays Vito’s rise from a boy born in Sicily to a powerful mafia don in New York City, juxtaposed with Michael’s struggles to maintain control over the family empire amidst betrayal and internal strife.
