The story centers around an orphan named N’dala, who is just 12 years old. Despite being brought to what is supposed to be a safer environment, N’dala feels a deep longing for his hometown of Bié and yearns to return there.Upon arriving in Luanda, N’dala becomes overwhelmed by the unfamiliar urban landscape and its harsh realities. He decides to flee from the nuns who are caring for him and begins to explore the city on his own. As he wanders through the streets filled with people and traffic, he encounters various characters that shape his journey.
One notable figure he meets is Zé, an older boy who tries to guide him through this new world. However, N’dala’s path takes a darker turn when he falls under the influence of Joka, a criminal who exploits N’dala’s vulnerability for his own gain. Throughout his experiences in Luanda, N’dala grapples with issues of survival and innocence as he navigates through both friendship and betrayal.
