Overview

Plot Summary
The story follows Sergiy, a retired soldier grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after the war has ended. He finds himself living in a devastated landscape marked by destruction and pollution. The narrative begins one year after government forces have supposedly triumphed over pro-Russian separatists, but the victory has left behind a bleak reality filled with rubble and suffering.

Sergiy works at a smelting plant alongside another veteran named Ivan. Both men are ostracized by their peers who blame them for the war’s consequences. Their coping mechanisms include engaging in militaristic drills that reflect their inability to move on from their past experiences. Tragically, Ivan succumbs to despair and commits suicide at the factory.

As the smelting plant closes due to economic changes, Sergiy transitions to driving a water truck to deliver fresh water to areas where local sources have become contaminated due to war-related pollution. During one of his deliveries, he encounters Katya, an archaeologist turned humanitarian activist working with an organization dedicated to exhuming and identifying war casualties.

Through his interactions with Katya and his involvement in her mission, Sergiy begins to find purpose and hope amidst his trauma. The film culminates in an emotional conclusion that suggests he chooses to remain committed to helping others rather than retreating into isolation.
