Battle on Buka Street

Battle on Buka Street is a Nigerian comedy-drama film that revolves around the intense rivalry between two half-sisters, Yejide and Awele, who are embroiled in a competitive feud that stems from their mothers’ longstanding animosity. The story is set in the Otanwa community, particularly focusing on Buka Street, known for its bustling food stalls.

Main Characters
Yejide, played by Funke Akindele, runs the most popular amala joint on Buka Street with the help of her mother Asake and her children. Awele, portrayed by Mercy Johnson, returns to town and opens a competing shop directly across from Yejide’s. This rekindles the fierce competition that began with their mothers—Asake and Ezinne—who were both married to Maduka.

Conflict Development
The rivalry escalates as both sisters engage in increasingly outrageous acts of sabotage against each other’s businesses. They employ their children to carry out pranks involving rats and cockroaches to undermine one another’s success. Amidst this chaos, themes of family loyalty, jealousy, and the impact of polygamy are explored.

Climax and Resolution
As tensions peak with destructive consequences—including a fire at Awele’s shop caused by Yejide’s daughter—both families face a reckoning. The narrative takes a turn when external events disrupt their feud; a prison break leads to unexpected alliances among the younger generation. Ultimately, Yejide and Awele are forced to confront their shared history and decide whether to continue their rivalry or seek reconciliation.

The film concludes with a message about breaking generational curses and the importance of unity over conflict.
